Securing Financial Leadership to Sustain a Legacy of Growth

The
Client

KFI Engineers, a premier consulting engineering firm

For nearly 30 years, KFI Engineers has executed major process and infrastructure engineering and design projects across a range of industries.  Generating nearly $100M in annual revenue, they employ 200 people and are registered in all 50 states.

The Challenge

Continuing a legacy of intelligent growth

KFI has a history of healthy growth, but over the last 5-6 years, they have made 4 strategic acquisitions in addition to their steady organic growth.

Throughout this period, they have maintained their foundational philosophy of laser-focused delivery, unparalleled problem-solving, and exceptional results, largely due to an outstanding leadership team.

When their incumbent CFO decided to retire after 21 years, the CEO and Board of Directors reached out to us for help finding a new CFO who could help the company sustain their disciplined growth.

The Solution

Hiring a seasoned financial leader with relevant industry expertise

After meeting with KFI’s CEO, Head of HR, one of their Board Directors, and the Outgoing CFO, we understood they needed a data and relationship-driven finance executive with experience leading teams at a CFO or near-CFO level.

The new CFO would lead a wide range of functional activities, including internal finance, real estate, corporate IT, legal, and peripheral business operations, as KFI’s sister business was a private jet charter.

Knowing the unique nuances of the engineering consulting space, we ensured all prospects had experience in professional services, consulting, design-build, or manufacturing with peripheral services offerings.

Our rigorous approach to research and fit assessment in our PrecisonPath™ process uncovered candidates with the financial expertise and industry experience KFI needed to continue their growth trajectory.

The Outcome

A seasoned finance executive with deep experience in growth-oriented businesses

KFI selected a highly accomplished financial strategist with over 25 years of experience leading financial planning, analysis, and business operations.

Before joining KFI, he was the Business Unit VP of Finance at National Carwash Solutions, Inc., where he oversaw FP&A, sales operations, and IT support.  Prior to that, he managed multi-million-dollar business units, led integrations, and enhanced financial reporting systems at Ecolab.

Additionally, he started his career in the civil engineering industry, followed by experience in private aviation, which gave him a strong foundational understanding of KFI’s business.

With expertise in mergers and acquisitions, cost optimization, and financial restructuring and a uniquely relevant breadth of experience, he was an excellent choice for continuing KFI’s legacy of healthy, intelligent growth.
