Pentair, a global leader in water treatment, filtration, and sustainability solutions
Pentair is one of the foremost global producers of comprehensive water treatment, filtration, and sustainability solutions, generating over $4.2 billion in annual revenue. Headquartered in Minneapolis, their 10,000+ employees work in 130 locations across 34 countries.
The Challenge
Addressing post-pandemic market challenges to drive strategic growth
Pentair’s executive team was driving a strategic plan focused on prioritizing its growth areas. Conducting a leadership talent assessment revealed a pressing interest in upskilling and elevating leadership, particularly in P&L ownership roles such as General Managers and Presidents across the globe.
One of their business unit groups, in particular, was facing unique post-pandemic market forces and had several opportunities for growth. Pentair contacted us to help find a senior leader who could seize these new opportunities inside the business units.

The Solution
Hiring a senior P&L leader to shape culture, drive growth, and support succession planning efforts
Engaging in extensive discovery sessions with Pentair’s segment executives, we learned they needed a seasoned, commercially oriented, 9-figure P&L leader.
Pentair wanted a group president who could rally the team, drive energy back into the group’s culture, and assess commercial capabilities across unique 2-step distribution channels.
The new executive would also be a key component of their succession plan for higher executive roles.
Our conversations identified culture fit as a key priority. Using our PrecisonPath™ process, we spent at least 90 minutes with every candidate, assessing their ability to take Pentair’s business units forward.
Our commitment to thoroughly understanding and evaluating each candidate based on our extensive discovery sessions enabled us to uncover gritty competitors with the right cultural fit for Pentairs’ next stage of growth.
The Outcome
An industry veteran with robust P&L leadership experience
After extensive outreach and evaluation, Pentair hired a seasoned executive with 30 years of experience. He had most recently led an $800 million North American business unit with 2,000 employees for Tennant Company. His prior roles included leadership positions at Polaris Industries, UTC, Samsung, and General Electric.
His experience made him an ideal fit, while his alignment with their mission, values, and culture positioned him to achieve Pentair’s strategic objectives for continued success.
Pentair has been extremely pleased with their new group president and began discussing succession opportunities with him within six months of his hire.
